The Hyundai Venue’s 120PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is now offered with three transmission options: a 7-speed DCT, a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed clutchless manual gearbox. The DCT offers pure convenience while the manual gearbox scores high on the fun-to-drive factor. The recently introduced iMT variant, where you need to shift gears manually while the duty of your left leg is handled by a couple of sensors and actuators, tries to offer both in one single package.
The question is, how do all three variants of the Venue fare in terms of performance and fuel efficiency? To find that out, we strapped our VBox and put them through their paces.
Performance Figures:

Surprisingly, the Hyundai Venue iMT is the fastest in the 0-100kmph run while the manual variant comes a close second. The DCT-equipped Venue is the slowest in the 0-100kmph run as its transmission didn’t allow us to have a quick launch, holding the revs at 2500rpm.

But where the Venue DCT shines is during roll-on acceleration as the gearbox drops gears quickly and power is served up quick.

The Venue MT, on the other hand, does the 20-80kmph run in 7.53 seconds in third gear and the 40-100kmph run in 12.25 seconds in fourth gear. But the real surprise is that the Venue iMT is quicker during roll-on acceleration.
It’s around 1.5 seconds faster than the standard Venue MT Turbo in the 20-80kmph run while the gap increases to 2.34 seconds in the 40-100kmph run. And this gap is present despite the gearing being the same. It looks like Hyundai has tweaked the fueling of the BS6 Venue for better mid range performance.
Tested Fuel Efficiency Figures:

Venue Turbo DCT (BS4) |

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Venue iMT is just 0.39kmpl less fuel efficient when compared to the manual variant. This should have no difference in your everyday drive as compared to the BS4 manual. While we couldn’t test the Venue iMT’s highway fuel efficiency figures, we expect it to be closely matched with the manual variant. The DCT variant is the least efficient in this test.
Prices And Verdict:

Prices (ex-showroom) |
Rs 8.51 lakh to Rs 10.90 lakh |
Rs 10 lakh to Rs 11.26 lakh |

Hyundai has indeed hit a sweet spot with the Venue iMT. It delivers the same performance as its manual sibling and is much more fuel efficient than its DCT sibling. All of this without the hassle of working out your left leg seals the deal.
