Ever wondered what car best describes your favourite football players?

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is down to the final two contestants – France and Argentina. The 27-day-long tournament is going to conclude this Sunday and what a ride it has been! But before the antics for the final game begin, we take a look at six finalists from the Argentine and French national teams and the cars they represent.

Lionel Messi = Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS

It just makes sense right? Leo is second to none when it comes to being agile and turning his body around with just a faint movement of his shoulder. And that’s exactly what the 718 Cayman GT4 RS is. A compact, agile road car that feels at home when on track. It moves and changes direction at the flick of the steering wheel, thanks to all sorts of wings, fins and slats, the details of which can be found here.

Kylian Mbappe = Pininfarina Battista

Kylian Mbappe is one of the fastest players in the 2022 World Cup and is undoubtedly the fastest in the French team. It is only fitting for his equivalent to be the Pininfarina Battista – the fastest-accelerating road-legal vehicle which goes from naught to 100kmph in a scarcely believable 1.79 seconds. The electric Hyper GT tops out at 349kmph, which isn’t the fastest but even Kylian’s recorded 35.19kmph speed in the tournament isn’t the quickest either.

Angel Di Maria = Lamborghini Huracan EVO RWD

The Argentine player, Angel Di Maria is known for his flair with the ball. His quick speed and deadly left foot are a thing of terror and he's very difficult to contain, to say the least. A quick untamable beast then calls for the Lamborghini Huracan EVO RWD. A 610 PS, fire-spitting naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 that sends power to the rear wheels only would be Di Maria’s quintessential four-wheeler avatar. Both are quick and agile. A match made in heaven, this one.

Antoine Griezmann = BMW M3 Competition

Antoine Griezmann is an instrumental player for France. He played a key role in the team’s World Cup winning journey last time around and the story continues. The Frenchman has a particular knack for opening up the game, short passing and even finishing for a matter of fact. His all-rounder characteristic is well matched by the BMW M3 Competition. A fast and practical sedan that can be the one car for all your needs. Rear-wheel drive, 480PS, four seats, four doors, a manual transmission and a big trunk. It has it all and does it all!

Lisandro Martinez = Maruti Jimny

Lisandro Martinez is a defender in the Argentine national team. At 5ft 9-inch, the Manchester United player might not be the tallest guy in the backline, but he certainly is the most robust one. The same can be said for the Maruti Jimny, a subcompact SUV with off-roading capabilities that surpasses cars that are bigger, powerful and pricier when the going gets mushy. It isn’t the fastest or even the tallest, but somehow manages to hold its own, just like the player.

Raphael Varane = Range Rover Sport

Raphael Varane is the quintessential defender and one of the most decorated centre-backs of modern football. He’s tall, fast, strong and isn’t afraid of taking on a man. Replace 'man' with 'terrain' and you’ve got the defining characteristics of a Range Rover Sport. Again, a quintessential sports SUV, representing elegant styling and a taste of finer things. In its most powerful form, the SUV packs a 440PS and 620Nm, 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbo-petrol hybrid power unit teamed to an all-wheel-drive system that’ll take you pretty much anywhere while carrying some decent speeds. A perfect interpretation of a big, but quick, defender.

That’s it for this edition! We personally can’t wait for the final game to unfold on Sunday and conclude this spectacle of a tournament. We know whom we’ll be rooting for. Which team do you think is worthy of lifting the cup this year?
