The A3 is the smallest offering by Audi in the Indian market. Introduced in 2014, the car hasn’t received any significant update apart from the addition of the convertible variant. Now, with the mid-life facelifted model already available in the international market, the updated sedan is expected to arrive on Indian shores by February 2017.

The speculated news is that the 2017 edition is likely to receive the 1.4-litre mill that Audi has used in the new A4. In the A4 the motor is capable of producing 150PS of power and 250Nm of torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 7-speed DSG gearbox transmitting power to the front wheels. A similar setup is expected for the new A3 facelift. The current A3 sold in India is powered by a 1.8-litre engine that develops 180PS of power and 250Nm of peak torque. Compared to the current generation A3, the petrol facelifted model will be 30PS less, which is bound to affect the fun factor.

Under the facelift, the 2017 Audi A3 gets various cosmetic updates. The sedan receives new headlights as per Audi current design philosophy, restyled bumpers, wider front grille and sporty looking twin diffusers and revised tail lights at the back.

The current A3 is priced at Rs 27.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the petrol variant. With Audi opting for the 1.4-litre motor, prices are likely to plummet downward, making the sedan more affordable. Currently, the Audi A3 faces competition only from the Mercedes-Benz CLA in the Indian compact premium car segment.
