Press releases from high-end luxury car manufacturers are often fun to read. The one released by Rolls-Royce for their first ever SUV, the Cullinan, is a good case in point. To build up some hype around the SUV, the British brand has showcased the Cullinan’s tailgate seating option. Called the ‘Rolls-Royce Cullinan Viewing Suite’, the carmaker describes these as the “best seats in the house.” These folding seats are tucked away in the boot compartment and unfold automatically at the touch of a button. Check out the image below to know how it works.

Yes, these seats may seem a bit pointless and we can’t fathom any owner using it on a regular basis. But the best part about it is the way RR puts it. Read for yourself.

“The Rolls-Royce Viewing Suite is automatically deployed at the touch of a button. Two rear-facing, beautifully contemporary (sure...), finest leather chairs and a cocktail table gracefully (not just automatically, but gracefully) emerge from within the rear compartment of Cullinan. It is from this luxuriously comfortable viewing platform that a Cullinan owner may take in the world’s most breathtaking vistas or view a sports event (where?) or even watch their children take part in their school sports day (from the parking lot?). Wherever one ventures, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Viewing Suite guarantees the best seat in the house (WT...).”

Well, that’s about it for the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Viewing Suite. Let's talk a little more about what the Cullinan is made of, shall we? The “all-new, high-bodied car that would redefine luxury travel by making it Effortless, Everywhere” is based on the new proprietary ‘Architecture of Luxury’ aluminium spaceframe from Rolls-Royce. An advantage of this platform is that the total length can be varied to offer more space or suit different body styles. Hence, like other car’s from RR’s stable, expect the Cullinan to be offered in a long wheelbase (LWB) avatar as well.

The Cullinan is expected to be powered by a 6.5-litre V12 petrol engine. Rolls-Royce is likely to use an 8-speed auto to power all four wheels. It is likely to get a hybrid variant at a later stage as well. The SUV or “high-bodied car” will be launched towards the end of this year and should come to India by next year. Prices? Well, it could very well be one of the most expensive production SUVs out there. But would you expect anything else from the “Bespoke” Rolls?
