For more than a century now, the Isle of Man’s Tourist Trophy races, or TT as they are more popularly known, have formed the premier street-circuit based motorcycle event in the world. The annual event has grown its own myth and legend, banking on some true riding heroes and their fearless exploits after all these decades of fantastic riding. Buoyed by the brand that the race has grown into, the Isle of Man Government which organizes and conducts the race once every year, is now planning to go global with the series.
The Isle of Man Economic Development Minister was quoted saying that the country wanted to develop and grow the global audience for the event for the benefit of the event and the country. The idea is to get the race to bloom into a six-round series featuring all-new venues in foreign lands, having the best 15-20 regular riders to race their bikes at these street racing circuits, joined by local wildcard riders. The intention of series will be to build a platform to increase revenues for the Isle of Man through sponsorship, TV rights, licensing and hospitality. All we care about is to get some of the maddest riders in the world battle it out on real world roads, with real world bikes. It could be through as soon as 2013, watch this space for more!
