Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover has started to assemble the Jaguar XJ 3.0-litre in India; reduces price of the luxury saloon.

Jaguar XJ 3.0-litre being locally manufactured in India

The Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will be locally manufacturing the Jaguar XJ 3.0-litre Diesel in India and have re-introduced the luxury saloon in the country at an attractive price starting from Rs 92.1 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The Jaguar XJ 3.0-litre was previously retailed at about Rs 1.16 crore, and now due to local assembly at its Pune plant, it is saving on government imposed import duties. This has aided the Tata-owned company to bring the price of the premium car under the Rs 1 crore mark. The Pune facility also assembles other JLR models like the Land Rover Freelander SUV and the smaller Jaguar XF sedan.

Speaking about the price reduction of the Jaguar XJ, Rohit Suri, Vice President, Jaguar Land Rover India said, "We are delighted to introduce the flagship of the Jaguar brand, the epitome of extraordinary luxury, the XJ, as locally manufactured, at an extremely competitive price point in the luxury saloon segment in India."

Though the Jaguar XJ is also available with a smaller 240PS, 2.0-litre Petrol, currently the Jaguar Land Rover India is assembling just the Jaguar XJ 3.0-litre Diesel in our country. The powerful six-cylinder oil-burner produces 275PS maximum power at 4,000rpm and a strong 600Nm of peak torque at 2,000rpm; and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Jaguar XJ 3.0-litre Diesel is being offered in two variants, namely the Premium Luxury and Portfolio, and despite the price-cut will include several luxury features like rear seat comfort pack with seat massage, electric rear side window blinds and LED reading lights. Moreover, the JLR claims that it has also increased rear headroom for added comfort of the passengers.

With the revised pricing, the Jaguar XJ will give stiff competition to its rivals like the recently upgraded Audi A8L, BMW 7 Series and the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
