How much power is too much power?
Jaguar XE - Project 8

We're guessing the answer to that question might just be 600PS. Why? Because Jaguar has decided the XE needs that much. Just to put things into perspective, that's the smallest sedan Jaguar makes — a car that goes up against the likes of the 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Don't get us wrong. We're drooling at the thought of it. After all, there's not much in there to not like, is there? While specifics are scarce, Jaguar has confirmed that the Project 8 will be the most powerful car with the Leaping Cat. The good old 5.0-litre supercharged V8 has been tinkered with to produce 600PS. Whoppa! To whet our appetites, we have some pictures and a video of the sports sedan, looking and sounding predictably angry as it laps the Nurburgring. It also looks the business too, if we may add. The angry face, the big spoiler, quad exhausts all drop anything but subtle hints at what's under the hood.

It'll be hand-built in Coventry by SVO — Jaguar's personalisation division. They're the same blokes who got their hands dirty with an F-Type back in 2014 giving birth to the beautiful Project 7. The Project 8 is set to be the second 'collector's edition' Jaguar.

Only 300 on sale, say Jag; which we guess will be sold out by the time we publish this article. They've minced no words stating the Project 8 won't exactly be affordable. "It is conceived for enthusiasts and the most discerning collectors. The price for such an extreme performance sports car available in strictly limited numbers will reflect that," reads an official statement issued by Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations chief John Edwards.
