The plan of locally assembling its cars in India seems to have worked for Jaguar. The British carmaker started locally assembling its flagship luxury saloon XJ in June 2014 and since then has recorded an impressive 300 per cent jump in sales. By locally assembling the Jaguar XJ the British four-wheeler manufacturer was able to price the luxobarge competitively against its German rivals which have a strong foothold in this segment of uber luxury cars. What makes the jump in sales even more notable is the fact that the rise in sales has been recorded within a time period of one year despite Mercedes-Benz riding in the next generation S-Class and Audi launching the new A8. Jaguar currently has 21 dealerships currently in India and hopes to increase this number in the near future.
Speaking about the performance, Rohit Suri, President, Jaguar Land Rover, India said, “We are delighted with the outstanding sales performance of Jaguar XJ. This performance is a testimony to the overwhelming response received from our customers, who truly appreciate the refined taste for elegant British style, luxury, design and sophistication. XJ’s exquisite design and styling turns heads wherever the car makes an appearance. Its exceptional standards of luxury, dynamic driving experience and craftsmanship appeals to our discerning customers who want to make a statement about their individuality and are looking to affirm their status amongst their peers. We look forward to further strengthening this position in 2015.”
