The new Jaguar XJ has once again been spotted, this time at the Nurburgring race track in Germany and it now seems a lot closer to production

It’s been five years since Jaguar introduced the current generation XJ in the international market. And the time has now come for it to get an update. The camouflaged XJ has been making its rounds for a while now but the recent most spy shots, with the brand new headlamps show that it is getting close to production ready.

While the car continues to remain heavily covered with a bothersome sheet of camouflage, it is clear that the XJ follows the British luxury carmaker’s new design philosophy that is set to make its debut with the XE sedan later this year. In fact, the new XJ is likely to sport a wire-mesh grille very similar to the one seen on the XE. Changes have also been made to the profile and the rear with sharper cuts on the bumper, reshaped exhaust pipes and some chrome highlights.

The new XJ continues to run on the same twin-five spoke alloy wheels that are already seen on the current generation model. Whether or not the production version will get the same rims is a question only time can answer.

Details with regards to the engine are still scanty, but we expect it to host the same powerplant that works force on the current generation models. The XJ might continue with the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 unit for the lower variants and the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 for the top-of-the-line XJR.

Soon after Mercedes-Benz announced that it will start producing its flagship S-Class locally, Jaguar was quick to follow the suit to make the pricing of the XJ more competitive. That said, the S-Class recently got a considerable upgrade and for the XJ to remain in the battle, Jaguar will have to ensure that they match its German rivals in luxury.
