Jeep has joined the likes of Ducati and GM by offering rebadged e-bikes
  • The legendary off-road carmaker has joined hands with American company QuietKat.
  • The electric motor has a peak power rating of 750W.
  • The new e-bike has a claimed range of 64.4km.
  • When it comes to off-roading, few manufacturers can boast of credentials as solid as Jeep. The iconic carmaker is known to make the toughest cars in the world, capable of scaling up the trickiest of trails. The American brand has now decided to expand its reach into the electric two-wheeler space by collaborating with electric bike QuietKat to produce an e-bike. While there is no official name for it, the Jeep e-bike is priced at an astronomical $5,899 (Rs 4.26 lakh, without Indian customs and duties).

Jeep has managed to keep the Jeep off-road DNA intact with the new e-bike. The battery is mounted in the downtube section of the frame with the 750W motor mounted right at the base of the frame. You can run this e-bike purely on the electric motor but for healthy folks, there is pedal assist. While the top speed of the e-bike has not been revealed, QuietKat says it can go 40 miles (64.4km) on a single charge. Hence, you will have enough juice left over even after going nuts on the iconic Rubicon trail.

The fat-tyre configuration means that you have chunky 4.8-inch tyres on typical 26-inch MTB wheels. This isn’t a hardtail. You get adjustable RockShox suspension units at both ends, the front one being an upside down fork. Instead of using conventional cables, the brakes are hydraulically actuated.

Pre-orders have begun but it is unlikely to see the light of day in India.
