Jeep has revealed the 2019 Renegade at the 2018 Turin Motor Show. It is expected that Jeep India will bring the same car to the country with most of the updates seen in the three images the company has released for now. What’s new? Here is everything you need to know in brief:
1) Grown-up looks
The Jeep Renegade used to literally looked like a baby Jeep; the combination of its compact dimensions and the insistence of the company in keeping iconic Jeep design cues intact gave the Renegade quite a cute look. The 2019 Renegade, however, looks more premium and grown-up than before, especially up front.
The whole front fascia has been updated for MY 2019, including the new all-LED headlamps with signature Jeep LED DRLs and the whole front bumper. The fog lamps and turn indicators have been repositioned, the body coloured panels now make inroads into the bumper and make the front look bigger than it was before.
On the side, the Renegade gets a new ORVM cover design with integrated indicators. The wheels and tyres look larger on the 2019 Renegade, but these could be limited to the road-spec ‘Limited’ variant.
At the back, the changes are limited to new smoked taillamps and a subtly updated rear bumper. The unique signature taillamps with the ‘X’ sign have been given a smoked effect, adding a hint of sportiness. The rear bumper gets a matte silver skid plate and a new chrome exhaust tip.
2) Inside story
Jeep hasn’t released any images of the 2019 Renegade’s interiors as of now, but spy shots have revealed that the overall quirky design here remains the same. The new Renegade will feature a larger central multimedia screen with added smartphone connectivity options including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
3) New engines.. For Europe
The Jeep Renegade will be getting more efficient new powertrains for European markets, including a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder 120PS petrol and a 1.3-litre, turbocharged petrol developing either 150PS or 180PS of maximum power. When it does launch the Renegade here, Jeep India will stick to the Compass’ 2.0-litre diesel and the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engines with 2WD and 4WD drivetrains.
4) Competitors better watch out
The Jeep Renegade has a huge wave of popularity to look forward to, thanks to the groundwork the company has done by pricing the Compass as competitively as it has. The Renegade will be assembled at the company’s plant in Ranjangaon with a high localisation of parts to keep costs low. And hence, the Jeep Renegade is expected to give the Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur, Maruti S-Cross and the upcoming Nissan Kicks on their toes.
