Jeep's big boy, the Wrangler Unlimited now has a petrol heart. Priced at Rs 56 lakh, the SUV will be available in a single variant. Notably, the Jeep featured a lone 2.8-litre V6 diesel since its launch in August 2016.
The manufacturer has chosen its tried-and-tested Pentastar V6 to get the job done. The 3.6-litre petrol engine develops 284PS of power, and 347Nm of torque, and is paired to a 5-speed automatic. Just like the diesel avatar, the petrol version is equipped with four-wheel drive as well.
Kevin Flynn – President and managing director, FCA India said, “We are delighted to now offer the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited at Rs. 56 lakh to Indian customers with the award-winning 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine. This will now be the most accessible model in the Wrangler line up equipped with this super smooth powertrain, the hallmark of efficiency, performance and refinement. With this announcement, the Trail-rated Jeep Wrangler is now available in both Petrol and Diesel powertrains in India.”
Other than the powertrain, the petrol Wrangler is identical to its diesel sibling. So, you continue to get removable doors and a removable roof, some fine quality McKinley leather upholstery and the trademark 'wash out' interiors with removable carpets. There's a gamut of safety tech on offer as well, that includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hill Descent Control and rollover mitigation.
The petrol Wrangler is the most affordable Jeep you can buy in India. Of course, all that will change when the Jeep Compass arrives later this year. On a related note, Jeep had confirmed the launch of their service wing Mopar for India as well. Looks like a busy year for the chaps at FCA India!
