Here are five important points thatโ€™ll bring you up to speed with the Joy Monster e-Bike

The electric two-wheeler segment in India has been gaining momentum over the past couple of years, especially with mainstream manufacturers like Bajaj and TVS entering the market space. But despite having premium options like the Chetak, iQube Electric and Ather 450X, the mass majority still consider opting for Chinese EV’s simply because they are easy on the pocket. However, most of them look the same, with minor design tweaks here and there. Trying to change this perception is the Monster, an all-electric monkey bike from Indian startup Joy. If you haven’t heard of the Joy Monster, here are five points that’ll bring you up to speed.

An Electric Grom?

This Joy Monster e-Bike isn’t your everyday motorcycle. In fact, it looks like a Honda Grom, a monkey bike. These bikes are styled to look sporty but are extremely compact in proportions. So zipping through traffic should be a piece of cake, right?  Well, not exactly, and here’s why?

Powered By A Hub Motor:

Though its “monstrous” name might lead you to believe the bike has a lot to offer in terms of performance, it really doesn’t. It’s powered by a 250 Watt hub motor that delivers a top speed of 25kmph. That’s snail’s pace even in city traffic.  The performance is in fact equivalent to 0.34PS, which is the amount of power the Activa 125 lost with its BS6 update.

Offers Decent Range:

The motor draws energy from a 30Ah lithium-ion battery pack that’s located in the belly of the motorcycle. The battery pack has been designed to resemble a petrol engine casing to help it look as authentic as possible. The setup is capable of offering 75km per charge and takes 4 hours for a full charge. For reference, that’s half a work day to just charge the bike. Unfortunately, the brand doesn’t even offer a fast charger an option.

Hardware Overdose:

Things don’t add up in the hardware department either. It features an upside fork, monoshock, disc brakes at either ends and 14-inch wheels. All this for a bike that delivers performance levels equivalent to an electric cycle. The entire package weighs in at 75kg kerb.

Made In China:

While Joy e-Bike is an Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer based in Gujarat, the Monster is built in China. Bummer, right? As for its price, it'll se you back by Rs Rs 98,999 on-road, pan India.
