After all the frankly inexplicable hype, Goa-based startup Kabira Mobility has finally launched its first two electric motorcycles: the KM 3000 and KM 4000. The former is a fully-faired Ninja 300 knock-off, priced at Rs 1,26,990, while the latter is a Kawasaki Z1000/Yamaha FZ Frankenstein job that costs Rs 1,36,990. The difference in price and appearance is backed up by a difference in specs too: the KM 3000 is powered by a 6kW BLDC motor while the KM 4000 gets an 8kW powerhouse.
These mills derive their go-juice from a 4kWh and 4.4kWh battery pack respectively, which Kabira claims is good for 120km and 150km in Eco mode. Sports mode, which is where the bikes will hit their claimed 100kmph and 120kmph top speeds, sees range figures drop down to 60km and 90km. These sound like reasonably impressive claims, but that’s all they are -- claims. Thankfully, we’ve had a chance to ride these bikes recently, so stay tuned to ZigWheels to see if the KM 3000 and KM 4000 live up to the promises made on paper.
While there isn’t a whole lot of competition in the electric motorcycle space at the moment, the Kabiras are most closely priced to the Revolt RV400, which costs Rs 1.19 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It, too offers a claimed range of 150km, but can only manage an 85kmph top speed from its 3kW motor. Kabira will currently sell (or hope to sell) its e-bikes through 18 dealers spread across Goa, north Karnataka, south Maharashtra, and Gujarat.
