The Kawasaki Ninja 650 has always been a popular option among bikers in India looking for an entry-level sports tourer. The only negative though, in an otherwise well packaged motorcycle, was its bland styling. The Japanese bike maker later addressed that with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R-inspired 2017 Ninja 650 which was launched earlier this year. And now, the Japanese giant has introduced the Kawasaki Ninja 650 KRT Edition in India. KRT stands for Kawasaki Racing Team, and the new bike gets redesigned graphics in line with the same. The new Kawasaki Ninja 650 has been priced at Rs 5.49 lakh ex-showroom) which is a premium of Rs 16,000 over the stock bike. The LCD screen also gets a negative display which makes it easy to read under direct sunlight.
Speaking on the new Ninja 650 variant, Yutaka Yamashita, Managing Director, India Kawasaki, said, "The Ninja 650 KRT edition has done remarkably well in USA, Europe and in other countries recently. We have got a good pool of Ninja 650 customers here in India as well. Those who were planning to buy Ninja 650, now have got another option with this new addition.”
Apart from the cosmetic changes, no updates have been made on the new motorcycle. Powering the new bike, is an updated version of the same 649cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed gearbox and it also gets an assist and slipper clutch. The twin-cylinder engine delivers 68PS of power at 8000rpm and 65.7Nm of torque at just 6500rpm, and is BS-IV compliant. Braking hardware has also been improved and it now gets revised calipers from Nissin and Bosch 9.1 ABS system.
