Kawasaki has launched its limited edition ZX-10RR at a price tag of Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). As the name suggests, the bike is a race-spec version of the popular ZX-10R, and the Japanese manufacturer has made only 500 units worldwide. So, a lucky few can grab this matte black-only motorcycle in India as well, however, at the premium price.
To justify the substantial increase in price as compared to the ZX-10R, upon which it is based, the ZX-10RR features KQS quick-shifter, which automatically rev-matches the engine with the rear wheel speed in order to allow clutchless shifts. The motor has been tweaked with several race components like carbon-coated tappets and a stronger crankcase. One can also buy race kits from Kawasaki to further enhance the performance credentials of the bike, however, it hasn't been offered currently and the company is working on the possibilities. The high-lift camshafts, which open the valve by 0.7mm, are also on offer along with a modified cylinder head to accommodate the change.
Most importantly, the coolant passage between the cylinders has been narrowed and the bottom of the cylinders has gained some thickness in order to accommodate race-spec pistons and be able to withstand the high stresses. Speaking of the 998cc inline four-cylinder motor from the ZX-10R, it now produces 210PS of power with ram air induction. The torque stands at 113Nm at 11,500rpm and the power is channelled to the super sticky rear Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyre via a 6-speed transmission. The Pirelli tyres are wrapped around a seven-spoke forged aluminium alloy wheel to keep the weight low. Thanks to this, the bike was 2 seconds faster than the standard machine around Kawasaki’s official test track in Kumamoto, Japan.
On the technological side of things, the ZX-10RR gets a Bosch inertial management unit (IMU) that collects data across 6 axes of movement. It also gets a 5 stage traction control and a three-stage launch control.
