Yes! The Carnival luxury MPV is finally here with prices starting from Rs 24.95 lakh. It is available in three variants and three seating layouts. Kia came in hot with the Seltos and stole the limelight, making it the sixth largest carmaker in India in terms of volume. The Carnival is the second offering from Kia, which will be followed by the Sonet sub-compact SUV.
Helping the Carnival lug 7/8/9 people is a BS6-compliant 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces a healthy 200PS and 440Nm of twist. These figures are harnessed through an 8-speed 'Sportsmatic' automatic gearbox.
Kia is offering the Carnival in three variants: Premium, Prestige and Limousine.
Variant | Price |
Premium 7 seater | Rs 24.95 lakh |
Premium 8 seater | Rs 25.15 lakh |
Prestige 7 seater | Rs 28.95 lakh |
Prestige 9 seater | Rs 29.95 lakh |
Limousine 7 seater | Rs 33.95 lakh |
Premium (Rs 24.95 lakh to Rs 25.15 lakh): The entry-level Premium is available as a 7-or 8-seater with enough equipment for the price it demands. Highlights include a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, steering-mounted audio controls, a rearview camera, 3.5-inch cluster LCD panel, cruise control, 18-inch alloy wheels, driver and passenger airbags, ABS with EBD, and smart key with push start/stop button.
Prestige (Rs 28.95 lakh to Rs 29.95 lakh): The mid-spec variant of the Carnival is special as it comes with the option of 7-seats or an impressive 9-seats. The 7-seater gets individual captain seats for the second row and a bench for the third row, while the 9-seater makes use of three captain rows (6 seats) and a bench (3 seats). It also gets roll-over mitigation, cornering brake control, side and curtain airbags, front parking sensors, LED lights, chrome treatment, powered tailgate, 220V laptop charger, dual-panel electric sunroof with all Interior LED lights, and sunshade curtains.
Limousine (Rs 33.95 lakh): This is the variant to opt for if you're seeking opulence. What makes this special is a 7-seater layout with VIP captain seats with extra thigh support and rearseat entertainment through 10.2-inch dual touchscreens. Other standout features include UVO connected car (free for the first three years), Harman/Kardon premium 8-speaker sound system, 10-way power driver seat, driver seat ventilation, wireless charger, and smartwatch connectivity.
We think Kia has also got the pricing right for the Carnival. It starts from Rs 24.95 lakh for Premium and goes all the way up to Rs 33.95 lakh for the Limousine variant. It enjoys a niche status as of now, especially since Toyota pulled the plug on its 2.8-litre Innova Crysta. Kia says the Carnival has already garnered over 3,500 bookings since unveiling, of which 1,410 were confirmed on day 1. Around 70 per cent of the bookings have been for the top-spec Limousine variant.
