The fact that the Seltos SUV garnered over 50,000 bookings here in just three months is impressive, as it is the first product from Kia Motors for India. Thanks to its attractive pricing, plethora of engine-transmission options and styling, the Seltos has been the pick of the lot since its debut in August this year. Now, Kia has started exporting the made-in-India Seltos to international markets. Going by a report, around 471 units of the Seltos were possibly exported to South America from the Chennai port in September. The report also states Kia will export the Seltos to the Middle Eastern and South Asian markets. Kia seems to be going strong on its India offensive; as we reported earlier, it has also planned two more models, a premium MPV and a compact SUV for India within the next year.
Kia India and its logistics partner, Hyundai Glovis India Pvt Ltd, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chennai Port. Valid till 2029, the agreement enables the export of Kia vehicles through the Chennai Port. The report also suggests that Kia is being allocated special facilities and concessional rewards by the port. Kia Motors currently builds the Seltos at its plant in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
The Seltos is available in two trim lines, HT Line and GT Line, which is further split into eight variants. Kia is offering three engine options with the Seltos: 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol (115PS/144Nm), 1.5-litre CRDi diesel (115PS/250Nm) and a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine (140PS/242Nm). There are also four transmission options on offer: 6MT, CVT, 6AT, and a 7-speed DCT.
What’s further helping Seltos is its premium set of features, some of which are firsts in its segment. Highlights include an 8-speaker Bose sound system, head-up display, Kia Sound Mood Lighting, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and UVO connected-car tech.
The Seltos rivals the Hyundai Creta, MG Hector, Tata Harrier and the Mahindra XUV500 with a price tag that ranges from Rs 9.69 lakh to Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Next up from the Korean manufacturer is the full-size Carnival MPV that will slot in above the Innova Crysta.
