Kia’s big bang for Auto Expo 2020 is almost here! Following the Seltos and the way it took over the Indian automotive space, the Korean carmaker has now revealed key details of the India-spec Carnival MPV. Available in three trim options with the option of 7/8/9 seats, the Carnival scores high on practicality. Combine that with a 2.2-litre diesel producing 200PS and a solid 440Nm mated to an eight-speed 'Sportsmatic' automatic gearbox, Kia seems prepared to take over the luxury MPV space in India. We want one!
Premium, Prestige and Limousine are the variants that will be offered when the Carnival goes on sale after its launch at the upcoming Auto Expo.
The entry-level Premium trim will be available as a 7- or 8-seater. Some equipment on offer are touchscreen audio with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, 4 speakers and 2 tweeters, steering audio controls, rear view camera, 3.5” cluster LCD panel, cruise control, 18-inch alloy wheels, driver and passenger airbags, ABS with EBD, and smart key with push start/stop button.
Meanwhile, the Prestige trim will be offered as a 7- or 9-seater. If you are wondering, the 9-seater options gets three captain rows (6 seats) and a last bench (3 seats). What it gets over the Premium are ESC with hill assist, roll-over mitigation and cornering brake control, side and curtain airbags and front parking sensors, LED front and rear lamps, LED DRLs, chrome treatment, powered tailgate, and UV Cut front door glass and windshield. It also gets some cool features like 220V laptop charger, dual panel electric sunroof with all Interior LED lights, and sunshade curtains.
Last but not the least and as the name suggests, the Limousine is the range-topping luxury variant of the Carnival that is loaded to the brim. It is only available as a 7-seater with middle row luxury VIP seats with leg support, leather seats, steering wheel and gear knob topped with wood garnish. Differentiating the limousine from other variants are the 18-inch chrome-finish alloy wheels.
It also gains UVO connected car (free for 3 years), Harman/Kardon premium 8-speaker sound system and 10.1-inch dual touchscreen rear seat entertainment system, 10-way power driver seat, driver seat ventilation, wireless charger and smartwatch connectivity.
Given the features and practicality it offers, the Carnival will have no direct competitors in India. That said, it will see some competition from the top-spec variants of the Innova Crysta. The fact that Toyota discontinued the 2.8-litre diesel from the Innova Crysta is also a big advantage for the Carnival with its powerful diesel engine.
The missing link is the price, which will be announced at Auto Expo 2020. We expect the Carnival to come with a price tag that hovers around the Rs 30 lakh mark.
