The Kia Seltos undercuts every other offering in the compact SUV space. Priced between Rs 9.69 lakh and Rs 15.99 lakh, the Seltos can be considered a worthy alternative to its cousin, the Hyundai Creta too. What’s more, it has already received over 30,000 bookings within a span of five weeks. This means Kia now has the tough task of meeting the overwhelming demand. And while the deliveries of the compact SUV commenced today, the Seltos also comes with a waiting period that ranges from 1.5-2 months. The Korean carmaker seems to be well prepared though as it has announced that the factory will soon start working in two shifts.
On offer are three engine options along with four transmissions. The Tech Line trim is available with the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines which make 115PS of power. The 1.5-litre petrol can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT, while the 1.5-litre diesel is available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor. The GT Line trim is only available with a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine (140PS/242Nm) mated to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT for now.
However, based on the Seltos’ brochure, it seems that Kia will soon offer the 1.5-litre diesel-auto combo with the GT Line trim soon. We expect it to be priced at Rs 16.99 lakh and what’s more, various dealers have already started accepting bookings for it.
The Seltos also comes with a 3-year/unlimited km warranty which can be extended by two years. Also offered is free road-side assistance for three years. Some standout features of the Seltos include an 8-speaker Bose sound system, a sunroof, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, eight-way powered driver seats, Kia Sound Mood lighting as well as front and rear parking sensors. It also gets six airbags, a smart 8.0-inch head-up display, a 7-inch colour MID, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with UVO Connect, wireless charging, and more.
Kia played the price card well and with the attributes that the Seltos posses, we are looking at a game-changer for the brand as well as the compact SUV segment in India. The Tata Harrier, MG Hector and even the Hyundai Creta have got every reason to worry.
