Kia Seltos Global Unveil Tomorrow

Kia will globally unveil its much-awaited Seltos compact SUV tomorrow. However, we’d have to wait a bit longer for the India launch that is expected to happen by September. The Seltos will also mark Kia’s grand debut in India and hence, has quite a lot at stake. And while the global unveil should reveal all details about the SUV, here’s everything we know about it so far.

A Quick Recap

The Seltos started life as the SP concept, first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. Following this, Kia showcased the SP Signature concept at the Seoul Motor Show, which was a near-production version of the SP concept with most of the styling elements from the SP concept. The SUV destined for India was expected to be christened the Trailster or the Tusker, as per Kia’s naming competition for the SUV. But ultimately Kia decided to call it the Seltos, similar to markets abroad.

 Design

The production-spec Seltos has been spotted testing multiple times with heavy camouflage in India and Kia has also released various sketches of the SUV. But, thanks to a set of leaked images from the SUV’s commercial shoot abroad, we know exactly what the India-bound Seltos will look like. The most prominent design element is the tiger nose grille with sleek LED headlamps. Chrome has been tastefully used all over the SUV. The front bumper has a muscular appeal to it, thanks to a rugged looking skid plate. It also gets machine-finished alloy wheels and features LED taillamps connected by a chrome strip at the rear.

Engine And Transmission Options

As far as engine options go, we expect it to come with a set of 1.5-litre BS6-compliant diesel and petrol motors here. These engines will be mated to either an automatic or manual gearbox. The Seltos is based on a brand new platform which will also underpin the upcoming 2020 Hyundai Creta.

 Interiors And Features

The interiors of the Seltos were recently spied, revealing an all-black theme with wooden inserts and brushed aluminium accents. A 10.25-inch floating infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is also expected to be on offer. Other features are likely to include cruise control, automatic climate control, Kia’s Sound Mood lighting and more. The SUV is also expected to get a host of connected features, similar to BlueLink in the Hyundai Venue. The Seltos spied abroad gets a premium Bose sound system, but only time will tell if Kia offers it here or not.

Price And Expected Launch

Kia will definitely play the premium card with the SUV and that is evident from the Seltos’ features and looks. In fact, it is expected to be larger and more premium than the current Creta. When it comes to India by September this year, the Seltos will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur, Nissan Kicks, Tata Harrier as well as the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. Expect it to be priced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).
