The Kia Seltos is all set for a launch on August 22 and as of now, we know everything about the SUV except for the pricing. We know that the SUV will come in two trim options -- Tech Line and GT Line ( exclusive to the 1.4 T-GDI engine). If you were eyeing the diesel variant and wanted the same in the sporty-looking GT Line trim, we have got some good news. Kia might offer the GT line with a diesel variant as well, and according to an RTO circular, it has also got the approvals for it.
The said document shows details of the Kia Seltos 1.5 CRDI AT in the GT X variant, which was previously only reserved for the 1.4 turbo petrol option. For the uninitiated, the Tech Line trim comes with light coloured interiors and is only available with the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. On the other end, the GT Line takes a sportier approach and offers dark-shaded interiors and contrast red bits but is exclusive to the 1.4 turbocharged petrol.
To make you life even more effortless, here is the list of all variants and the engine-transmission combinations that will be available:
The 1.5-litre CRDi diesel and 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 115PS will be offered with the Tech Line trim which will be available in five variants:
HT E : 1.5-litre petrol MT and 1.5-litre diesel MT
HT K :1.5-litre petrol MT and 1.5-litre diesel MT
HT K+ : 1.5-litre petrol MT and 1.5-litre diesel MT/AT
HT X : 1.5-litre petrol MT/CVT and 1.5-litre diesel MT
HT X+ : 1.5-litre diesel MT/AT
The 1.4-litre Turbo GDI engine which puts out 140PS and 242Nm will be offered in the GT Line trim that is split into :
GT K : 1.4-litre turbo petrol MT
GT X : 1.4-litre turbo petrol MT/DCT
GTX+ : 1.4-litre turbo petrol MT/DCT
Now, as you can see, the Seltos with a diesel-automatic combination is only available in the HT K + and HT X+ variants. The mid-spec HT X variant unfortunately misses out on the diesel-automatic combination. If Kia does decide to launch the diesel-automatic in the GTX variant, it will essentially plug the gap, offering a new diesel-automatic variant which also gains the sporty-looking bits.
That said, what the GT X variant misses out are some standout features like the Bose 8-speaker sound system, a sunroof, 360-degree camera, driving rearview mirror, blind view monitor, ventilated front seats, 8-way powered driver’s seat and front and rear parking sensors.
It seems like Kia is actively listening to the market response and tweaking the Seltos’ variant lineup so that everything is right by the time of launch. Kudos to Kia for that and not long ago, we had also reported that Kia will offer the range-topping GT X+ with the DCT. Looking at the big picture, there is a Seltos for everyone with its choice of three engines, four transmissions and eight variants. What's missing now is the pricing, which we believe will range between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).
