Kia has officially unveiled its long-awaited Seltos in India . The Seltos will be pitched as a premium compact SUV by Kia and will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur, MG Hector and the Tata Harrier in the Indian market. What Kia will bring to the segment are a plethora of engine options, loads of features and stunning looks. So here’s a closer look at Kia’s futuristic SUV in detailed pictures.
The Kia Seltos takes styling inspiration from the SP Concept, which was showcased for the first time at the 2018 Auto Expo, and you would be glad to know that final production model hasn’t deviated much from it. At the front its sports an aggressive ‘Tiger Nose’ grille and gets futuristic looking LED headlamps and vertical LED fog lamps below. A chrome wraparound is present on the headlight and air dam region to cap off the front design. Aside from that, the Seltos gets front skid plates that give it a butch SUV stance.
A closer look at the LED headlamps reveal that the Seltos gets 3D multi-layer indicators for directional awareness. An interesting feature of the Seltos is that its LED DRLs extend all the way up to the centre of the grille.
The side view reveals some interesting bits like the flared wheel arches with black cladding running through to the front and rear area. There’s also a neat chrome insert that extends to the rear windshield. The side glass is also angled at a sharp rake after the C-pillar.
The Kia Seltos gets choice of diamond-cut 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels that help the Seltos stand out among others. With disc brakes on all four wheels, the Seltos gets premium stopping power. The rim design pictured here is likely to be available on in the top-spec variants.
The Kia Seltos also comes with 205/60 R16 or 215/55 R17 tyre options. The wheel rims pictured here are simpler than the rims pictured above. It means that these rims could likely be from the lower-spec variants of the Seltos.
At the rear, the Seltos gets a sleek rear design with one of its main highlights being a neat chrome strip on the quarter panel that extends from one tail light to the other. The rear bumper gets a black cladding as well.
A closer look at the Seltos’s tail light shows LED elements inside with a unique signature that is unmistakably identifiable. They sport a wrap-around design that blends with the chrome strip.
At the top, the Kia Seltos sports a dual-tone roof as well as a sunroof. Unfortunately it is not a panoramic sunroof as compared to the Jeep Compass. Aside from that, the Seltos gets roof rails to add to the sporty look .
Inside, the Kia Seltos gets a host of premium features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include a head-up display, a 360-degree camera with blind view monitor, sound mood lighting, and more.
The Kia Seltos also gets its own connected tech system similar to the Hyundai Venue. Called the UVO connect, it gets plenty of features like AI voice command and stolen vehicle tracker, among others. Another interesting highlight of the Seltos is the premium 8-speaker Bose sound system.
The Kia Seltos also gets other features like ventilated seats, a powered driver’s seat, air purifier, automatic climate control, and more. Aside from that, the Kia Seltos gets various safety features and driver assists like six airbags, ABS, ESC, vehicle stability management (VSM), front and rear parking sensors, traction control, brake-assist system as well as hill start assist control.
Under the hood, the Kia Seltos will be powered by a 1.4-litre Turbo GDI petrol engine along with a set of 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. All three engines are BS6-compliant. The 1.5-litre petrol is expected to make around 115PS of power. Its 1.5-litre diesel counterpart is also expected to make the same amount of power but its torque figures are expected to exceed the Hyundai Creta’s 1.6-litre unit. The more powerful 1.4-litre Turbo GDI petrol engine is expected to deliver 140PS of power. However, this engine option is likely to be limited to the top-spec GT variant.
As a first in the Indian market, Kia will be offering four transmission options that will be mated with the three engines. These include a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed DCT, a 6-speed Torque Converter and a CVT. The Seltos will also get Eco, Normal and Sport driving modes along with a Wet, Mud and Sand terrain mode.
The Seltos is expected to be launched in India around the month of September. The India-spec Seltos will also be exported to the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Kia will start off its operations in the country with 260 touch points across 160 cities in India. Once launched, the Seltos is expected to be priced somewhere between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).
