The Kia SP Concept’s production version has been spotted testing in South Korea, almost a year before its official launch. While it will be Kia’s first product in India, the Trazor (the most probable name for it, given it got the most number of votes in a recent poll), will also be introduced in other developing markets. The Kia Trazor will be assembled at Kia’s plant in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
From the spy shots, it is clear that the flamboyant design of the SP Concept has been toned down, especially the muscular wheel arches. The all-LED headlamps from the concept have now been converted into projector lamps. Another set of lights can be seen placed below in a staggered fashion. The ‘Tiger Nose’ grille design looks pretty much like that on the concept, while the bumper design seems to have been tweaked for practical purposes.
While it could be the result of the camera used to take the spy shots, the Kia Trazor may not have the smooth flowing A-pillar design like the concept. It looks more rakish, like that of its main competitor, the Hyundai Creta. The window line is larger in terms of overall height than the concept, though the slowly rising baseline seems to have been carried over.
The rear design of the SP Concept wasn’t as fancy as the front and most of it seems to have been carried over to the Trazor. The large wide taillamps are almost unchanged when compared to the concept. Also unchanged is the exhaust, which pokes out from under the bumper.
No specifications of the Kia Trazor have been revealed as of now. That said, we expect it to be powered by both petrol and diesel engines with the possibility of it being offered with both manual and automatic transmission too. AWD is not expected to be offered on the Trazor as it is not in high demand in India - the Renault Duster is the only SUV in the segment to offer it and it’s not setting the sales charts on fire. The test mule of the Trazor was seen with one very important feature loved by people in India - a sunroof.
