Koenigsegg Automotive's flagship supercar, the 1500PS Regera, is no longer for sale. The car entered production in 2016, and the company had a plan to produce only 80 units of the Regera. Half of those were booked before the car entered production in March 2016.
The Regera is the company's most advanced car ever to go on sale. It packs a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that runs on a modest 9.3:1 compression. For comparison, the Lamborghini Huracan's 5.2-litre V10 runs a ratio of 12.7:1. By itself, the combustion engine makes 1115PS of power at 8250rpm and the 1280Nm of torque peaks at 4100rpm. At least 1000Nm of that is available between 2700 and 6170rpm.
Then there are three electric motors, one on each of the rear wheels and another at the crank to add more power and off-peak torque to the mix. Together, the three motors make another 710PS of power and 900Nm of torque.
The theoretical peak power figure stands at 1825PS, but the real-world output is 1500PS and 2000Nm. With a kerb weight of 1628kg, its power-to-weight ratio stands at 0.92PS/kg. Still no match for the One:1's figure of 1PS/kg. In addition to using carbon fibre, Koenigsegg engineers also ditched the variable transmission that we see in all cars with an internal combustion engine.
The Regera's 0-100kmph acceleration figure is par for the course at 2.7 seconds, but its roll-on acceleration is incredibly impressive. The car can go from 150kmph to 250kmph in just 3.2 seconds and reaching 400kmph from a standstill takes a smidgen under 20 seconds. The top speed is restricted to 410kmph.
Koenigsegg's founder and CEO, Christian von Koenigsegg, said, “The Regera is a new high watermark for Koenigsegg Automotive. It has been our greatest technical challenge and as such, it is also our greatest technical triumph. That our customers and dealers have seen and appreciated the work we’ve done on the Regera is a source of great pride for everyone at Koenigsegg.”
