Italy has delivered a slew of outrageous supercars, and a considerable chunk has come from the house of Automobili Lamborghini. Right from its early models like the legendary Miura and the iconic Diablo, up to the latest offerings such as the Aventador and Huracan, Lamborghini has specialized in creating jaw-droppingly gorgeous cars for petrolheads around the world.
The automotive world is developing technologies for the future, and Lamborghini obviously wants to be part of the movement. Keeping this in mind, the supercar-maker has signed an agreement with the MIT-Italy Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This partnership will enable students and teaching staff at MIT and engineers at Lamborghini to work together to run cutting-edge research projects, focusing primarily on new materials for the auto industry.
In a press release, Stefano Domenicali, chairman and CEO, Automobili Lamborghini, said, "We want people to think of us more and more as a trendsetter in the super luxury and sports car segment. MIT has always been a pioneer in innovation and we are proud to have signed this general agreement with such an illustrious institution, which will lead to the study of issues of mutual interest relating to the super sports car for the 3rd millennium."
Serenella Sferza, co-director of MIT-Italy Program, shared his take on the tie-up: "MIT-Italy is a two way bridge linking MIT and Outstanding Names in Italian industry. It is hard for us to imagine a better partner than Lamborghini, and we are looking forward to the projects that this partnership will help us develop.”
While this partnership provides a great stage for everyone at MIT to experience Lamborghini’s philosophy of designing cars for today and for the future, the carmaker itself stands to gain a lot from an institution that has carved its history with engineering programmes that are renowned worldwide.
