Lexus showed the updated version of its successful crossover sports utility offering RX series at the on-going Geneva Motor Show sporting some crucial new tech-bits as well as a few classy cosmetic upgrades. Plying in the luxury crossover segment, the new Lexus RX series for 2013 gets a new front-end design by way of Lexus’s new corporate face with the spindle grille making its presence felt on the RX as found on other Lexus series models like the GS, LX and CT. The new car also gets LED running lights as standard on all versions while the new for this year F Sport variant gets fancier with smoked out headlights and tail lights, dark-coloured wheels as well as a slightly more aggressive looking front-end design.
Under the hood, things remain more or less unchanged with the RX350 getting powered by the trusty 270-horsepower 3.5-litre V6 engine while the bigger RX450h (‘h’ standing for hybrid) is powered by a 295bhp electronically assisted V6 motor. But for 2013, the 450h gets a new Sport mode for those who wish to have fun with the hybrid RX 450h. The hybrid-powered RX 450h can operate in electric-only or petrol-engine-only modes as well as a mode that is a combination of both. The advanced extended electric-mode operation when driving at low-speeds or amidst stop-and-go driving conditions significantly helps in reducing the fuel consumption. Both the variants are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive options to choose from. Transmission options include.
Inside of the RX series too get some minor yet impressive updates including a new steering wheel, IP cluster and a new-look centre console. But if you want it to really customize it, then there are plenty of options to choose from including a Mark Levinson high-end audio system as well as a HDD GPS navigation unit. Amongst the cosmetic upgrade options, one can opt for the ‘Optional Sport Appearance Package’ that offers 19-inch wheels finished in superchrome, halogen headlamps as well as an exclusively designed front bumper to add to the RX’s suave appeal.
