Plug-in-hybrid model could be the next-gen NX SUV with a 2.5-litre petrol plug-in hybrid powertrain like the Toyota RAV4.
New electric model will be designed from the ground up.
Lexus is planning at least 20 new models by 2025, with over 10 EVs, PHEVs, and HEVs.
Over a month after showcasing the LF-Z Electric concept and its future roadmap, Lexus has revealed that a plug-in-hybrid and an all-new electric vehicle are coming soon. The carmaker is planning 20 new models by 2025, with over 10 EVs, PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles), and HEVs (hybrid electric vehicles).
The plug-in-hybrid model will be introduced first later this year. We have no details on the model, but we think it will most likely be the next-generation NX SUV that was leaked in February. Its powertrain could be the same 302PS 2.5-litre petrol plug-in hybrid setup as the Toyota RAV4, since both are based on the TNGA-K platform.
Next up will be an all-electric offering that will debut in 2022. Unlike the UX300e electric SUV, which is based on its internal combustion engine counterpart, this new EV will be an all-new model designed from the ground up based on its own platform. We suspect it could be the production-spec LF-30 Electrified that debuted in concept form at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
Expect more details on both Lexus models to surface as we get closer to their debuts. There’s no word yet on either of these two models back home, but we expect a long wait before we see the next-gen NX or the all-electric vehicle.
