Home-grown auto major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) inaugurated its fourth spare parts warehouse in Mahindra World City, Jaipur. Spread over an 11 acre plot, with an additional 5 acre area for future expansion, the Rs 150 crore facility will cater to both the automotive and farm equipment businesses for north and north-west regions of the country. It is the first warehouse for M&M in northern India and is claimed, by the company, to be one of the largest such facilities in the country.
This Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) was inaugurated by Pawan Goenka, managing director, and it has been strategically brought up to reduce the processing and logistical time to less than four days for spare parts to reach dealerships and service stations. M&M will procure spare parts from over 1,000 vendors and 9 plants for this new facility to run like clockwork. The company says that the warehouse will generate employment for over 450 direct and indirect employees.
On the opening ceremony, Hemant Sikka, chief purchase officer, automotive and farm equipment sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd said, “It is a moment of pride for us as we inaugurate this state of the art warehousing facility at MWC, Jaipur and in the process set new standards for warehouses in India. With a significant investment and employment generation, we are highly invested in the state of Rajasthan. I am sure this will also provide an impetus to the industrial growth of the region.”
Apart from this newly inaugurated RDC, Mahindra has one in Kanhe, near Pune, which stocks automotive parts. There are two other facilities - one in Bhiwandi, near Mumbai, that stocks tractor parts, and the other in Hyderabad for commercial vehicle parts. All the RDCs supply directly to dealerships and in the open market.
