The 2016-17 season FIA Formula E Championship is scheduled to commence in October, with the first race to be held in Hong Kong on the 9th. The first official pre-season test was completed yesterday where Mahindra Racing Formula E Team successfully completed the three-day test. Held at UK’s Donington Park circuit, the team's drivers Felix Rosenqvist and Nick Heidfeld were among the fastest on the track.

Speaking on the first official pre-season test, Dilbagh Gill, team principal, Mahindra Racing Formula E Team said: “It’s been an encouraging and important pre-season test for the team at Donington this week. At this point in time, I think it’s difficult to tell how meaningful these lap times are because Donington is not a representative track for the championship but we have achieved our targets. Felix has settled into the team really well and has started contributing towards the development of the car very quickly. During this test, we have been focusing on both performance and reliability. Reliability is very important for us. In season two, we were the only team to finish every lap of every race with both cars and this is something we would like to replicate this year.”

The official pre-season test rounds gave Mahindra Racing an opportunity to assess their M3Electro Formula E racecar with its opposition for the first time. The team managed to amass a total of 209 laps at the Donington Park circuit over six separate timed sessions. An overall distance of 860.18km was achieved during the three-day session. While Nick Heidfeld managed to complete 107 laps in the M3Electro Formula E racecar, Felix Rosenqvist completed 102 laps. Rosenqvist had managed to grab the attention on the second day by becoming the first driver in this year to acquire a new track record by setting a sub-90 second lap in a Formula E car at the circuit. Prior to the official three-day test, Mahindra Racing has already covered close to 2200km at multiple locations in Spain during private testing during July.
