Mahindra Restructures Its Automotive Business

Indian carmaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.) announced a restructuring of its businesses under the MD of the company, Dr Pawan Goenka. The company formed an Agriculture business. This is in addition to the two existing businesses – Automotive and Farm Equipment. For the Automotive business, Mahindra has appointed Rajan Wadhera as its president. Wadhera will take over the reins of the sector from Pravin Shah, the current president, upon his retirement on March 31, 2017.

The restructuring announcement by Mahindra also brings news of the re-designation of several business heads. To that end, Rajesh Jejurikar will be the president of the Farm Equipment business while Ashok Sharma will head Agriculture. The two presidents, along with Rajan Wadhera, will report to Dr Pawan Goenka and the changes will come into effect from April 1, 2017, onwards. Mahindra's trucks and buses and construction equipment businesses will also be merged into the Automotive business under Rajan Wadhera.

Mahindra is among the major SUV players in India and offers a number of vehicles to customers, such as the Bolero, Thar, Scorpio, KUV 100, TUV 300, NuvoSport, Xylo and the XUV 500. It also sells the Verito sedan and Verito Vibe hatchback. Apart from SUVs, the manufacturer is also into the electric car business and makes the eVerito and e2oPlus zero-emission vehicles. The company owns coachbuilder and legendary design house Pininfarina as well as Korean carmaker Ssanyong, which makes the Rexton SUV. As far as commercial vehicles are concerned, the automaker makes cars such as the Bolero Pickup and Scorpio Getaway pickup trucks, as well as eSupro electric van.
