UPDATE: Mahindra will launch the AMT equipped XUV later this month.

  • Diesel-powered W6 variant spied with 6-speed AMT.
  • The 6-speed AMT will be sourced from Magneti Marelli.
  • The XUV300 AMT is expected to launch in the second half of 2019.
  • The AMT variants are expected to be priced at a premium of Rs 60,000.

Mahindra’s XUV300 is a great all-rounder. It comes with a set of powerful engines, plenty of features and is even quite spacious given its size. However, there was one thing missing in the package, and that was the option of an automatic gearbox. Now, that’s about to change as Mahindra is all set to launch an AMT version of the XUV300 in the country soon.

The sub-4 metre SUV was recently spied with an AMT gearbox on the mid-spec W6 variant and according to our sources, the carmaker will introduce the AMT on both petrol and diesel versions of the SUV in the second half of 2019. Thanks to previous spy images, we already know that the top-spec W8 (O) variant will get the new AMT option. Mahindra might price the new AMT variants at a premium of around Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 over their corresponding manual variants.

The XUV300 comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. The test mule spied recently was seen sporting a 6-speed AMT gearbox, which is likely to have been sourced from Magneti Marelli. The only other diesel cars in the segment to sport an automatic gearbox are the Tata Nexon and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The 1.5-litre diesel engine on the XUV300 produces class leading figures of 116PS and 300Nm of torque. Here’s a look at the specs of the XUV300 diesel with its diesel automatic competitors.

The petrol motor on the XUV300 features a 1.2-litre turbocharged motor that churns out 111PS and 200Nm of torque. While a petrol AMT would make the XUV300 more desirable, the segment has recently seen the debut of the Venue 1.0-litre turbo-petrol which features a more advanced 7-speed DCT gearbox. Here are the performance figures of petrol-automatic sub-4 metre SUVs in the country.

The AMT variant on the XUV300 is a welcome addition. It must be noted that is not the only Mahindra offering that is likely to feature the new transmission. The Marazzo MPV is also expected to get the same 6-speed AMT gearbox and is likely to be launched early next year. As for the XUV300 AMT, the new variants, which are expected to be priced at a premium over their corresponding manual variants, will add to the SUV’s desirability in the overcrowded segment.
