Mahindra is working on its next big thing after the Thar, the second-gen XU500. Its interior pictures have now surfaced online, revealing a few interesting details. We can also notice some modern day features which will be offered in the upcoming SUV.
This particular test mule could be a production-spec version as the interior seems complete. It comes with a dual-tone black-cream colour scheme, a first for the XUV500. The highlight is the Mercedes-Benz like twin digital screens comprising the digital driver’s display and infotainment system. Both the screens sit flush, imparting a premium appeal to the new minimalistic looking cabin.
The keen-eyed will notice the swivel wheel with hotkeys to control the infotainment system. Placed around the armrest, they would be much easier to access compared to around the touchscreen. It will also come with an electronic parking brake, a feature present in the XUV500’s arch-rival, the Gravitas.
Other notable equipment include a multi-function flat-bottom steering wheel, cruise control, climate control, and level-1 autonomous driving features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and forward collision warning. Possible safety features consist of multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitor, and electronic stability control.
The XUV500 will utilise Mahindra’s new-gen 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol and all-aluminium 2.2-litre diesel engine. These two engines debuted in the Thar, but the XUV500’s units are likely to be more powerful and should develop around 190PS. Both engines are likely to be offered with manual and automatic transmissions as well as optional all-wheel-drive system.
The second-gen Mahindra XUV500 is likely to be launched in early-2021 with a possible starting price of around Rs 14 lakh. It will rival the MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and the upcoming Tata Gravitas.
