Update: Maruti Ciaz Facelift Launch On August 6!
Maruti-Suzuki Ciaz has been the best-selling sedan for as long as we can remember. It isn't as premium as the City, nor as sporty as the Verna, but it offers peace of mind (thanks to the Maruti badge), loads of features and more space than a typical Mumbai 1BHK. But, with the other two now getting updates and improving their strengths further, the Maruti has started to sweat a bit. But, not for long.
Sources working on the project have revealed that the Ciaz facelift will be launched in August 2018. And not just with cosmetic and feature updates, but with a new engine as well! The 1.5-litre petrol K15B engine from Suzuki's international portfolio will replace the existing 1.4-litre K14B petrol in the current Ciaz. Additionally, this new engine will come synced with the SHVS mild-hybrid tech, making the Ciaz the first and only petrol-hybrid Maruti in India. As of now, it is only the DDiS200 diesel motor in India which gets the SHVS tech. Also, this move will make the Ciaz sit on par with the Honda City and Toyota Yaris in term of the petrol engine capacity, but will still lack a bit in the outright power figure. There is no word yet on the possibility of a petrol/diesel automatic.
The current 1.4-litre petrol motor makes 92PS of maximum power and 130Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the new 1.5-litre petrol makes 104.7PS of maximum power and 138Nm of peak torque on the Indonesia-spec second-gen Ertiga. The engine tune is expected to remain the same here as well, which means the Ciaz is not only set for a bump up in power, but an efficiency boost as well. After the launch of the Ciaz facelift by August, the second-gen Ertiga is also expected to get the 1.5-litre/SHVS combo. The 1.3-litre DDiS200 diesel engine will be retained and there will be no 1.6-litre DDiS320 option.
In terms of other updates, the Ciaz is expected to get a new grille, headlamps, tail lamps and bumpers. Inside, the dash will remain the same but expect more features - perhaps cruise control, a new MID and (hopefully) a sunroof. Prices will not see much of a hike. The current Rs 7.83 lakh-Rs 11.51 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) bracket should go up by about Rs 20,00- Rs 30,000. After the launch, it will continue to rival the like of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the new entrant - Toyota Yaris. Where each car has its USP, the Ciaz will remain the most spacious possibly the cheapest to run in the segment.
