Maruti Suzuki might have had a fairly weak month on the sales chart with a growth of only 1.4 percent domestically but annual sales has gone up 11.1 percent giving a good reason to celebrate for India’s largest carmaker. Sales in FY 2014-15 stood at 11.70 lakh units, a rise of 11.1 percent from 10.53 lakh units.
Nearly five lakh units of this comprises of Maruti’s compact cars – Swift, Ritz, Dzire and Celerio, Maruti’s strongest segment in the year. Sale of entry level hatchbacks like the Alto and Wagon R have dipped by 2.4 percent in the past year clearly showing the falling interest in this segment. It still amounts to 4.26 lakh unit sales in a year for Maruti Suzuki.
Higher up the segment, cars like the Ciaz and Ertiga are doing well for Maruti too totaling to a little over one lakh units in FY 2014-15. Considering that the Ciaz was launched in October 2014, if it can continue with the same form all through next year, these numbers should rise by a big margin.
Exports meanwhile grew by 20.1 percent from 1.01 lakh units to 1.21 lakh units. Cumulative (domestic+export) numbers stood at 1.29 million units, a growth of 11.9 percent.
