The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the latest car to join the Nexa premium car sales and service network. Beginning April1, 2017 the Ciaz is being sold exclusively via the 250 dealerships strong Nexa network in the country.
It has been a bit puzzling why Maruti took so long to shift the Ciaz to the Nexa network. With this move, the Ciaz certainly gets a better sales platform - the Nexa dealerships are designed to give customers a premium feeling, which could not be offered in regular Maruti Suzuki dealerships.
Maruti has not made any major changes to the Ciaz. The exterior design, interior design, engine-and-transmission options and features remain the same. Maruti has added a new colour to the Ciaz range, the Nexa Blue/Stargaze - other colour options include Pearl Metallic Dignity Brown, Pearl Sangria Red, Metallic Silky Silver, Metallic Glistening Gray, Pearl Midnight Black and Pearl Snow White.
Variants names have been changed, the Ciaz was earlier available in five trim levels - Vxi/Vdi, Vxi(O)/Vdi(O), Vxi+/Vdi+, Zxi/Zdi and Zxi+/Zdi+; Nexa cars generally are only available in four trim levels - Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. Whichever variant a customer chooses, the Ciaz sold through Nexa will not get variant badges on the boot lid.
Engine and transmission options remain the same. The petrol variants of the Ciaz are powered by a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated motor developing 92PS of maximum power at 6000rpm and 130Nm of peak torque at 4000rpm. The motor can be had with either a 5-speed manual transmission (ARAI-certified mileage of 20.73kmpl) or a 4-speed automatic transmission (19.12kmpl).
The diesel variants of the Ciaz are powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel motor developing 90PS of maximum power at 4000rpm and 200Nm of peak torque at 1750rpm. The diesel motor is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission. The addition of an SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle System) mild-hybrid system improves fuel-efficiency, ARAI-certified mileage for the sedan is 28.09kmpl!
Prices of the Ciaz are as follows:
Sigma Petrol - Rs 7.73 lakh
Delta Petrol - Rs 8.14 lakh
Zeta Petrol - Rs 8.80 lakh
Delta Petrol AT - Rs 9.31 lakh
Alpha Petrol - Rs 9.36 lakh
Zeta Petrol AT - Rs 9.96 lakh
Alpha Petrol AT - Rs 10.52 lakh
Sigma Smart Hybrid - Rs 7.89 lakh
Delta Smart Hybrid - Rs 8.30 lakh
Zeta Smart Hybrid - Rs 8.96 lakh
Alpha Smart Hybrid - Rs 9.57 lakh
All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
The move to Nexa will certainly give the Ciaz the premium image it deserves, but there are many things we wish Maruti had done to make the Ciaz truly special. The company has its reasons to not make changes to the car - the Ciaz remains the highest selling sedan in its segment with an average monthly sale of almost 6,000 units in the past six months.
