Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza outsells the Ford EcoSport by a huge margin

The Vitara Brezza was easily among the most anticipated launch of the year, and has created a quite a stir ever since its first sketch was released by Maruti.

A lot was expected of Maruti’s compact SUV, and the Vitara Brezza has lived up to the hype. So much so, that it has managed to outsell its closest competitor, the Ford EcoSport by a huge margin. Sales figures for the Vitara Brezza for the month of April 2016 indicate that Maruti has sold twice as many Vitara Brezzas as the EcoSport!

Ford had even announced a price cut for the EcoSport, dropping its price by around a lakh and half, right after the launch of the Vitara Brezza. Despite the price cut, Ford has managed to move only 3789 units of the EcoSport in the same month, while Maruti sold 7832 units of the Vitara Brezza.

The Vitara Brezza had overtaken the EcoSport in March itself, with Maruti selling as many as 5563 units, about 1107 units more than the EcoSport’s 4456 units.

Interestingly, the Vitara Brezza was just 68 units shy of the highly successful Hyundai Creta in terms of sales numbers for the month of April, of which 7900 units were sold. It wouldn’t be surprising in fact, if the Brezza outsells the Creta in the coming months.

The Vitara Brezza is only available with the tried and tested 1.3-litre diesel engine Maruti sources from Fiat, and Maruti is expected to the petrol variant of its compact SUV by the end of the year. On the other hand, the Ford EcoSport comes with the options of two petrol engines and one diesel engine. The Ford also comes with a dual clutch (DCT) automatic transmission mated to a 1.5-litre petrol unit, unlike the Vitara Brezza which only gets a 5-speed manual transmission.
