Italian marque brand Maserati has added the jaw-droppingly gorgeous 2018 Gran Turismo to its India lineup. Unveiled at the Goodwood Festival last year, the refreshed Gran Turismo is priced at Rs 2.25 crore (ex-showroom pan-India). The GranTurismo is the latest Maserati designed by Pininfarina and since its launch in 2007, it has evolved into one of the most iconic GT cars ever built.
Available in two different variants, the Sport and the meaner looking track-inspired MC, the Gran Turismo is powered by the naturally aspirated 4.7-litre V8 engine, which was handcrafted by Ferrari in Maranello. It produces a whopping 460PS of power at 7000rpm with a peak torque of 520Nm. Transmission duties on the latest GT are handled by a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
The 2018 model features a new “sharknose” hexagonal grille inspired by the Alfieri Concept and adds a three-dimensional effect to the front design. Coupled with the new, lower air ducts, the grille helps improve the airflow distribution and reduces aerodynamic drag, claims Maserati.
The rear bumper has also been redesigned in line with the aesthetics of the iconic GT coupé and cabriolet, featuring a neater design with a two-fold layout for the Sport and MC versions.
Inside the cabin, the new Maserati gets Poltrona Frau leather seats with integrated headrests. For 2018, the interior features a new, high resolution 8.4-inch capacitive touchscreen and refined ergonomics, with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The lower console is redesigned to accommodate a user-friendly, double rotary dial made of forged aluminium and a repositioned button cluster for the car’s driving modes. The new Maserati double-dial clock at the centre of the dashboard and the Harman Kardon Premium Sound system are standard on both Sport and MC versions.
Ahead of the car’s unveiling in Mumbai, Bojan Jankulovski, Maserati India’s head of operations, said, "For over 70 years, our quest has been to develop and refine a unique, pure expression of the GranTurismo concept. It’s a luxurious, handcrafted grand-tourer fitted with a sophisticated race car engine, one of the last naturally aspirated engines. The restyled GranTurismo is a car for those who defy convention, those who dare to be different.”
The 2018 Gran Turismo from the Maserati stable will go up against the likes of the BMW M series, the Nissan GTR and the Jaguar F-Type in India.
