Road Rash, the iconic motorcycle racing game, is being reincarnated as Road Redemption, 30 years after the original’s launch
Road Rash

Road Rash. This is a name that takes me back to my childhood, when I got my first computer and it was the first game that I ever played. It was probably also the game that every 90’s kid played and got introduced to a whole new world of motorbike racing.

Road Rash can be considered the first combat bike racing game to get released, and probably the only one ever, to the best of our knowledge. It had much more to it than just racing: Gamers had to fight their way to victory with weapons like chains and baseball bats. The simple gameplay and low system requirements also contributed to its massive success. Some might say that it instigated violence, but letting off steam and doing things in the virtual world that frankly would land you behind bars if you attempted them in real life is the whole point of gaming, innit?

Now, after almost two decades, Road Rash is back with a bang. The trailer dropped earlier this month and has been trending since then. It gives us a glimpse of what the game is going to be. In keeping with the times, it has got top-notch graphics now, but the basic gameplay thankfully remains the same: Kick, punch and unleash mayhem to victory.

However, there have been some changes, also in keeping with the times and the tastes of modern gamers. It gets a new single-player campaign with up to 4-player co-op gaming. It also gets a lot of new tracks to play upon, which can be unlocked as you win more races. Other features include the expandable skill tree -- fight your way to the top to earn in-game cash that you can use to upgrade your character, bike, and weapons.
