Mercedes-Benz CLA and CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake unveiled

Ahead of its planned world premiere at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz has revealed its new offering - the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake. Based on the front-wheel-drive MFA platform, the CLA Shooting Brake is the stylish estate version of the CLA Class.

This new wagon is 4,630mm in length, 1,777mm wide and has a height of 1,435mm. The CLA shooting Brake gets an elongated rear end which increases the cargo capacity by 25 litres as opposed to the CLA which has a boot space of 495 litres. With the rear seats folded the boot capacity increases to 1,354 litres.

A 2.1-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine will do duty in the CLA 200 CDI to deliver 136PS of power and 300Nm of torque and in the CLA 220 CDI to produce 177PS of power and 350Nm of torque. The petrol lineup consists of a 1.6-litre engine that churns out 122PS of power and 200Nm of torque in the CLA 180 and 156PS of power and 250Nm of torque in the CLA 200. A 2.0-litre power plant delivering 211PS of power and 350Nm which can also be had with an optional 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system will do duty in the CLA 250.

The range-topping Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake will come equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine delivering 360PS of power at 6,000rpm and 450Nm of torque between 2,250 and 5,000 rpm. Output of the engine is sent to a 4MATIC system through a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT gearbox, which enables the wagon to sprint from 0-100kmph in 4.7 seconds before reaching an electronically-capped top-speed of 250kmph.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA and CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake will go on sale only in the international market with deliveries expected to commence from March next year.
