The Mercedes-Benz EQ electric vehicle lineup currently consists of two models: the EQC SUV and EQV luxury MPV. We recently reported the carmaker will be introducing not one, but six new electric vehicles by the end of 2022. The next offering from Mercedes is the EQA, which will be unveiled on January 20, 2021.
The EQA is the electric equivalent of the GLA and will utilise the same basic architecture. The concept car debuted at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. It was powered by twin electric motors, making it a full-time all-wheel-drive SUV. Power figures of the production-spec model are yet to be revealed, but the concept model is capable of developing over 271PS. It will have a driving range of around 400km.
Like the EQC, the EQA’s design is likely to be similar to its ICE counterpart, the GLA. The main differentiating factor is likely to be at the front, where the EQA could feature a revised grille and fancier DRLs. Even the rear-end looks different as the number plate housing is on the bumper, whereas the GLA’s is on the tailgate.
The EQA’s interior, though, is likely to be similar to the GLA. That’s no bad thing as it comes with a well-appointed cabin. It should feature Mercedes’ trademark twin-screen setup running on the carmaker’s MBUX UI.
The Mercedes-Benz EQA could be on the cards for India considering the carmaker’s aggressive product strategy for our market. It will be positioned under the GLC in the carmaker’s lineup when it’s launched, possibly in 2022. The EQA will lock horns with the Volvo XC40 Recharge that’s set to launch in 2021.
