Mercedes-Benz has launched the GLC Celebration Edition to mark 70 years of Indian independence.  The special edition GLC is available with both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol-powered GLC 300 Celebration Edition is priced at Rs 51.25 lakh and the GLC 220 d with a diesel heart costs Rs 50.86 lakh. That's a premium of Rs 88,000 over equivalent GLC 300 and GLC 220 d in Sport trims.

The special edition obviously gets some extra features like LED puddle lamps with Mercedes-Benz logo, gloss black external mirrors, sporty stainless steel pedals with non-slip studs, chrome trims in the front and rear and an SD card loaded with Garmin Map Pilot to add offline navigation feature to the infotainment system. Along with the GLC Celebration Edition, the German luxury carmaker also added the Designo Hyacinth red paint scheme to the list of colour options for the SUV. The company also recently expanded the GLC line by adding the GLC 43 variant with AMG performance and a coupe body style.

The GLC 220 d packs a 2.1-litre diesel engine that makes 170PS between 3000 and 4200rpm and 400Nm of torque between 1400 and 2800rpm. The GLC 300 gets a punchier 2.0-litre petrol motor that pumps 245PS of power at 5500rpm and 370Nm of torque between 1300 and 4000rpm. Paired with a 9-speed automatic sending power to all four wheels, the diesel variants deliver a 0-100kmph acceleration figure of 8.3 seconds while the petrol variant trumps that figure by accelerating to 100kmph in 6.5 seconds. The GLC line now starts at Rs 46.49 lakh for the GLC 220 d in Style trim and tops out at Rs 74.8 lakh for the GLC 43. The GLC's prime rivals include the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque.

About the launch, Roland Folger, CEO and MD of Mercedes-Benz India, said, "We are glad to launch the GLC ‘Celebration Edition’ to commemorate India’s 70th Independence day and also celebrate the SUV’s overwhelming success in the Indian market since its debut, a year ago.
