More information about the MG Astor (essentially the petrol-powered ZS) has begun to surface ahead of its imminent launch. We’ve now come to know that the SUV will be offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This gives us a hint of what’s under the hood. Apart from that, MG has also revealed certain features of their upcoming SUV.
In the UK, the petrol-powered ZS pairs the 6-speed automatic transmission with the 1-litre turbo-petrol engine developing 111PS and 160Nm. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that the Astor could get the same powertrain for the Indian market. The power figures are in the ballpark of the 115PS Hyundai Creta 1.5-litre petrol, 115PS Kia Seltos 1.5-litre petrol, and 115PS Skoda Kushaq 1-litre turbo-petrol as well.
Powertrains aside, MG has revealed some of the creature comforts that will be on offer in the Astor. These include:
-
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (standard)
-
6-way power-adjustable driver seat
-
Rear washer, wiper and defogger (standard)
-
Rain-sensing wipers
-
Restyled full-LED headlamps
-
LED DRLs (standard)
-
3 steering modes
Apart from these features, the Astor will also come with segment-first AI and driving assistance features including forward collision warning, lane keep and departure assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, and automatic emergency braking.
The MG Astor is expected to go on sale soon. Prices are likely to start from Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in the same league as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector, Tata Harrier, and the upcoming VW Taigun.
