UPDATE: The MG Hector has been launched with prices starting at Rs 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom pan India). Check out the complete prices and other details here.
MG Motor’s first-ever offering for the Indian market, the Hector SUV, is set to be unveiled on May 15. While we know what the Hector looks like on the outside, we’ve finally got a glimpse of its interiors thanks to new spy shots of the SUV. The new images reveal an all-black dashboard with plenty of gloss black and silver accents. It also shows the top half of the dashboard draped in faux leather.
Step inside the cabin, and the first thing that grabs your attention is the large central display. This eliminates the need for various buttons on the dash. The vertically stacked touchscreen will house the controls for various functions including infotainment, climate control and MG’s i-SMART connected car application. To know more about MG’s connected car technology, head here. Also, you’ll notice that the Hector gets a panoramic sunroof which we Indians love. Coming to the finer details, the Hector gets a chunky leather-wrapped steering wheel which houses buttons for the cruise control and audio functions. The instrument cluster gets a huge MID (multi-info display) flanked by an analogue rev counter and speedometer. The controls for the ORVMs, headlamp adjuster and the boot release are located just below the driver’s side AC vent.
Based on the latest spy shots, we can confirm that the Hector will get the following features:
The Hector will be powered by two engine options - A 2.0-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre turbo-charged petrol. The diesel engine is the same 2.0-litre Multijet unit that powers the Jeep Compass. Available in two states of tune -- 140PS and 170PS -- we expect the MG to feature the latter. You’ll be sad to note that the diesel engine will not be offered with an automatic gearbox, at least at launch. Instead, it will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. But fret not because those who want an automatic can opt for the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor. The turbocharged petrol unit is expected to churn out 143PS of power and 250Nm of torque and will come mated to a DCT gearbox.
The MG Hector will be unveiled next week and will hit our roads in June. It is likely to be priced from around Rs 15 lakh and go upto Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The Hector will take on the likes of the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 and the Jeep Compass. It must also be mentioned that the Hector will be the first connected mid-size SUV in its segment and we can’t wait to get our hands on one. So stay tuned to ZigWheels for further updates and our first drive review.
