MG’s upcoming compact SUV is expected to hit showrooms around Diwali 2021

MG Motor has tied up with Reliance Jio for its connected car tech. The first model to benefit from this new partnership will be its upcoming petrol-only Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta-rival, which is likely to be called Astor.

MG claims Jio’s 4G network, large reach, and wide customer base will come in handy in providing high-speed in-car connectivity across all regions of the country. Jio’s eSIM and combined solutions will also enable buyers to access trending infotainment and real-time telematics on the go.

Back in 2019, MG introduced its first offering in the country, the Hector, with connected car technology. It packs more than 50 connected features, including remote operation, online navigation, Over the Air updates (OTA), along with other safety and convenience features. The SUV was later updated with multiple feature additions. Other MG models such as the Hector Plus, ZS EV, and Gloster also get similar connected car tech features.

Speaking about the partnership, MG Motor India’s President and Managing Director, Rajeev Chaba, said, “Technology and innovation are leading the connected car space in the automobile industry. The current trend focuses increasingly on software-driven devices and our current partnership with a tech-innovator like Jio in the IoT space is a step towards establishing MG Motor as a tech leader in the automobile industry. This partnership will ensure our next connected SUV further simplifies the driving experience and ensures safety backed by technology.

MG Motor India’s portfolio currently comprises four models: Hector, Hector Plus, ZS EV, and Gloster. The carmaker is expected to launch its new offering, the facelifted ZS Petrol (Astor), around Diwali 2021.
