MV Agusta is among the most hallowed names in the motorcycle world. The legendary Italian brand has an envious racing history and ever since its revival in the 1990’s, it has been building among the most desired motorcycles on planet earth. MV Agusta bikes are celebrated for their drop dead gorgeous looks, blistering performance on track and the “riding experience” which makes every outing on it a memorable one. One aspect that the brand never focused on was being practical, as it always built performance bikes that were designed to tear the racetracks. But with changing trends in the world of motorcycles, MV Agusta took a brave decision and uncovered the Turismo Veloce 800 at the 2013 EICMA motorcycle show in 2013. The new MV Agusta Turismo Veloce holds the distinction of being the first sports tourer motorcycle to roll out from its factory floor in Varese, Italy, since the brand’s inception. Motoroyale, the official distributor for MV Agusta in India, launched the Brutale 800 yesterday, and at the launch event it was announced that the Turismo Veloce will also be launched soon in India. We expect the new Turismo Veloce 800 to be assembled in India and priced around Rs 17-18 lakh (ex-showroom). The new bike is based on the MV Agusta Brutale 800 platform and makes the Italian brand more accessible and practical as modern buyers just don’t want to keep their MV Agustas parked in their driveway but to actually ride it.
Being an MV Agusta, the styling of the Turismo Veloce has to be sensational, and the bike features the same face as seen on the MV Agusta F3, with the iconic diamond-shaped headlight with LED DRLs. It gets a large windscreen to protect the rider from wind blast at higher speeds and it can be adjusted by 60mm. Also, the quarter faring has been beautifully integrated into the chiselled fuel tank. The tank is also narrow for the rider to hold it easily with his thighs and it has an impressive 22-litre capacity (Brutale 800 has 16.5 litres). The bike also features a 5-inch colour display which is Bluetooth-compatible and features two USB sockets and two 12V power points.
The bike is powered by the same 798cc, three-cylinder motor as seen on the Brutale 800, that produces 110PS and peak torque of 80Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and it gets a bi-directional quick shifter. Talking about electronics, the MV Agusta Turismo Veloce 800 is equipped with eight-level traction control system, ride-by-wire throttle control, and four rider modes. The frame is a tubular trellis unit which is suspended on Marzocchi USD forks up front and an adjustable monoshock unit at the rear. Braking is done by disc brakes on both ends with Bosch 9 Plus ABS system along with RLM (Rear wheel Lift-up Mitigation). The Turismo Veloce will compete against the Ducati Multistrada 950, Suzuki V-Strom, Kawasaki Ninja 1000 and Triumph Tiger XRx.
