Skoda Auto will launch the facelift version of its crossover SUV, the Yeti, in July. The SUV was showcased at the Auto Expo 2014 and features new styling elements and an improved interior. On the outside, the 2014 Skoda Yeti features new headlamps, a new grille and a new bumper, all of which now exude Skoda's new design language. The Skoda logo, as is the case with the new Superb, now moves to the bonnet from the grille. There are changes to the Yeti's rear too. The overall design theme remains the same, but the new Yeti now sports nicer looking LED tail lamps.
Inside, the dashboard layout continues unchanged but the steering wheel is new and the clocks and audio system will see some revisions as well. What will also remain unchanged is the good build quality of the Yeti's interior, and its plush feel. The high seating position, comfortable seats and good visibility are the other pluses that the 2014 Skoda Yeti will retain.
The Yeti will continue to be sold as a diesel. The engine will be the same 2-litre diesel from the current model and will come in two states of tune - 110PS for the front wheel drive Yeti and 140PS for the all wheel drive version. So far the a Yeti has only been available with a manual gearbox. But, we expect the new Yeti to come with a DSG dual clutch automatic as well. According to Skoda, one of the main reasons for the Yeti not doing well was its unclear positioning. The Yeti thanks to its size might not be as butch looking as some of the other SUVs carrying a similar price tag, but it was still seen as an off-roader.
Skoda says, the biggest advantage the Yeti has over its rivals is its convenient size. It is easier to park and drive in the city and when it comes to on and off-road performance, the Yeti can still take on any SUV with aplomb. The new positioning for the Yeti then, will be that of an ideal urban crossover. And to really make good of this positioning, an automatic is a must. As far as pricing is concerned, we expect the new Yeti to cost around the same as the current model with similar trim options.
