The A4 was and is one of the best selling cars in Audi’s lineup in India. But after numerous facelifts over its almost 8 years of lifespan, the last generation A4, or the “B8” as Audi likes to call it, was due for a generation change. Enter the B9, or, in other words, the brand new for 2016 Audi A4, which was launched today with prices starting from Rs 38.10 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi, for the base 'Plus' trim. Whereas, the top of the line Technology variant is available at Rs 41.20 lakh. Aesthetically, the new A4 doesn’t look radically different from the current one. The overall familiarity of the design is to keep the identity of the A4 intact; you cannot mistake it for any other car. And it looks rather elegant in form. The new DRLs look good and edgy. They flank the 3D grille which is in tune with Audi's new design philosophy. The tail lamps too have been redesigned. The car is bigger than before and yet weighs 95kg less than the previous generation A4.
Audi A4 2016 cabin
The cabin is quintessential Audi with the MMI system intact, along with leather seats and new wooden inlays to enhance the luxury feel of the cabin. The analogue clocks however have been replaced by a digital screen which allows you to choose the information displayed according to your preference. The car has grown in size and that means it is more spacious, especially at the rear. The knee-room is ample and so is the headroom.

New Audi A4 launched
The A4 has currently been launched only with a petrol option (30TFSI) and is powered by a considerably smaller 1.4-litre four cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. It might not sound like much but it does dish out 150PS of power and 250Nm of torque. It is the same engine that is employed in numerous VW cars and, frankly, it was only a matter of time before it came to this segment. The engine is mated to a new 7-speed STronic transmission that facilitates spirited driving but is also tuned for fuel efficiency. It can sit at 120kmph on the highway with the tacho barely breaching 2000rpm, something we witnessed during our drive in Bhubaneshwar.
Audi seems to have hit a sweet spot with the A4. It is a great overall package and, compared to its chief rivals like the BMW 3-series, Mercedes C-Class, and the Jaguar XF, it has been priced quite competitively as well.
