Hyundai will be bringing in the updated Elantra to Indian shores in September. Here’s all you need to know about it.
New Hyundai Elantra

1.)    New design: The previous generation Elantra was the first car to sport Hyundai’ fluidic sculpture 2.0 design philosophy. In this 2016 iteration, the smooth lines are replaced by a more edgy design language. The sleek grille now gives way to a large hexagonal chrome one with Jaguar-esque projector type headlamps on either side. The 2016 Elantra sports LED daytime running rlghts and tail lamps. Overall, the new Elantra looks a lot more new-age and youthful than its predecessor.

2.)    Refreshed Interior: On the inside, the Elantra will sport the same steering wheel that we have already seen on the Creta. In fact, it might just share the same instrumentation as well. The dashboard of the international-spec model gets washed in black with silver highlights around the centre console and the AC vents. The new Elantra is expected to come with better quality interior and more space on the inside than its predecessor.

New Hyundai Elantra features

3.)    Features: Like all Hyundai offerings, expect the new Elantra to come loaded in terms of features. The top-spec variant will come loaded with touchscreen infotainment with Bluetooth, AUX and USB connectivity, reverse camera, projector headlamps, steering mounted controls, navigation and more.

4.)    Engine options: The India-spec Elantra is expected to come with petrol as well as diesel engine options. While there is no official confirmation from Hyundai as yet, expect the new offering to ditch the 1.8-litre petrol powerplant in place of a new 2.0-litre mill. This new unit though will continue to make 149 horses of power. The Elantra will also come with the same 1.6-litre diesel as the Creta, but is expected to churn out 136PS instead. Both these engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

5.)    Launch: Having introduced a mildly facelifted Elantra earlier this year, Hyundai wasn’t planning on bringing in the new generation model this year. But the Korean car maker has now reworked its plans and is expected to launch it in September. Expect the prices of the new Elantra to start at around Rs 16 lakh for the base petrol trim and the fully loaded top-spec diesel going for around Rs 20 lakh. When launched, the Hyundai Elantra will compete against the likes of the Volkswagen Jetta, Toyota Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Cruze and the likes.
