Hyundai had showcased the Tucson SUV at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo in February. Set to be launched around the festive season, the Tucson will be positioned below the Sante Fe and above the Creta in Hyundai’s SUV lineup.

The new Tucson has been spotted testing in Chennai for the first time in our country. Even though the spied car is heavily camouflaged, the tail-light enclosures give away its identity, confirming it as the third-generation Tucson. The Tucson was initially launched in India back in 2005 as a CBU (completely built-up unit) but the upcoming third-generation Tucson will most likely be assembled locally at Hyundai’s plant at Chennai.

It will most likely be powered by a 2.0-litre CRDi diesel engine which will come with two different power tunes.  The lower output variant will produce 134PS of power whereas the higher tuned version will produce 184PS of maximum power along with 402Nm of peak torque. Hyundai will offer a six-speed manual transmission as well as a six-speed automatic gearbox for the Tucson.

Dimension wise, the Tucson is 4,475mm long, 1850mm wide and 1645mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2670mm and boot space capacity of 513 litres.

With the test mule plying on Indian roads, we can expect the new Tucson to be launched in India around the upcoming festive season or by the end of this year. When launched, it will take on the Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming Tata Hexa.
